He said that for government to actualise its change agenda, everybody must embrace value re-orientation.
Olawumi cautioned the corps members against the use of comments that could damage the good image of the country, especially during these difficult times.
The army officer described Nigerian youths as the best in the world, urging them to use their community development service activities to solve community-related problems.
He also advised them to be involved in the development of infrastructure, healthcare and human capacity building, to compliment government’s efforts.
Olawumi cautioned the corps members against misuse of the enviable opportunity provided by the scheme to acquire a skill outside their course of study.
He said that the acquisition of such skills would add value to their lives by being self-reliant and employers of labour.
Olawumi encouraged the corps members to start small and become big entrepreneurs.
He said the scheme’s efforts to get some financial institutions and establishments to key into the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Empowerment goals was beginning to yield result.
The director-general said that the scheme had received a N2 billion loan from the Bank of Industry and N5 billion from the FCMB Credit Direct.
He said the scheme had also been granted a N200 million loan from Heritage Bank and N10 million from the NYSC Foundation and Bank of Agriculture.
He advised the corps members to access and make judicious use of these loans which only required their NYSC discharge certificates as collateral.
Olawumi said that the government’s solution to the problem of unemployment was the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development.
He urged them to embrace the initiative as government job was on the decrease.
The army officer advised corps members to avoid unnecessary and unauthorised journeys, saying that the NYSC management was committed to their security and safety.
He informed them of the Distress Call Centres which were set up to strengthen security arrangements for corps members across the country.
