ASUU Remembers Iyayi as NASU, SSANU Shut Unical

Late Professor Festus Iyayi
The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU), University of Calabar (Unical) branch, has paid special tribute to late Professor Festus Iyayi by holding a special congress in his honour in Calabar.
Iyayi, an activist and former national president of ASUU, died two years ago in a ghastly motor accident along Lokoja-Abuja federal highway while on his way to attend a meeting as a result of the national strike embarked on by the union in demand of favourable teaching and learning university conditions from government.
As the ASUU staged the congress, the Non Academic Staff Union of the University (NASUU) and their counterpart Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University (SSANU-UCB) shut down non-academic and academic activities in the institution following what they described as unfair treatment meted against them by the administration of the out-going Vice Chancellor, James Epoke.
