Cross River: Christian body threatens state government over prayer ban

Following the ban of morning and afternoon devotions across Cross Rivers State government, the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria is threatening a showdown with the government. Archbishop Joseph Edra Ukpo Following the ban on morning devotion in all primary and secondary schools in Cross Rivers State, the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has threatened a battle to finish with the state government till the directive is reversed. According to Daily Trust, this was made known in a statement on Thursday by the state chairman of the Christian body, Archbishop Joseph Edra Ukpo, where he said the move negated freedom of worship in the state. The statement said:
“Sequel to the letter from the Ministry of Education with reference No MOE/S132/VOL 1, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education dated October 21, directing public and private primary/secondary schools across the state to suspend all assemblies (morning and afternoon) till further notice, the Christian Association of Nigeria, Cross River State chapter, hereby, says that such directive is totally unacceptable. This directive will negatively affect the moral upbringing of our children who are future leaders of this country.”
