Buhari approves upgrade of Imo Airport, directs immediate facelift

President Muhammadu Buhari has given the nod for the upgrade of the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport to an International Cargo Airport. The president has also directed that reconstruction works at the airport should commence immediately. This was contained in a press statement signed by Sam Onwuemeodo, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Rochas Okorocha. According to the statement, ahead of President Buhari’s approval for the upgrade, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation, Hajia Binta Adamu Bello had Thursday paid an inspection visit to the airport with Governor Okorocha conducting her round the facility. Taking the permanent secretary round on inspection of the facilities at the airport, Governor Okorocha said the long- time dream of Imo people to see the airport upgraded to International Cargo Airport is about to be a dream come true, and thanked President Buhari for seeing the need to upgrade the airport and giving swift approval to that effect. Okorocha added that his government would work closely with the Federal Ministry of Aviation to ensure conducive environment for timely and successful completion of the project.
